Wow! Guess I'm going to sound like I'm whinin' here, but this doesn't make much sense to me!
I am on Social Security Disability, and I receive Food Stamps.
For 2012, my S.S. raise was $25.00.
SSD apparently keeps in contact with DSHS (Dept. of Soc. and Health Services). DSHS gives me Food Stamps, and I live in a "Subsidized" Apartment. (Elderly and Disabled).
So my raise last year put me at $725.00 pr mo. and I was receiving food assistance of $122.00 pr.mo.
For my twenty five dollar raise, DSHS removed $14. in Food Stamps, leaving me $108. TOTAL RAISE: $11.00
My raise for 2013 is going to be $14.00, and DSHS has just informed me I will lose SEVEN in my Food Stamps. Woo hoo $7. extra dollars a month.
My subsidized apt., which has been $202.00, will go UP to $209.00! (Because I get a raise!)
Well, Heck! I get a fourteen dollar *RAISE* and Food stamps drop seven, and rent rises seven! TOTAL RAISE: $0.00
WHERE did my raise go??? Why do they even bother with dollar amounts that miniscule?
Oh Well! I DO still have the same income, really, and it's much better than some. But it IS sorta disappointing.
In some cases, even $14.00 is extra money. Lots of paperwork to get that information across, eh?
I guess our Government works in mysterious ways.
I didn't lose anything, but I didn't GAIN anything either!
Happy Holidays Everybodeeeeeee :-)
