The last article I wrote was about my little bad kitty, but I mentioned in it that I had been tired, worn out, exhausted, etc.

Not knowing the reason was because I hadn't been paying attention to my health, I just thought I had done too much.

Anyway....................being so busy over the Holiday Season, I hadn't had my bloodwork done, then when I made an appointment to get it done, there was too much snow to drive there. So another delay.

I finally did go in, on Monday, the 13th, and on the 15th the lab called and said I needed to come in for more blood testing because there was a concern for my B12 and Folic Acid levels. I HATE needles and wasn't worried about missing *Vampire Appointments*.

So I'm sitting here thinking to myself, "why should that matter?" (Not taking into account my age and other meds I take).

Out of curiosity, I looked it up on my handy dandy computer, (it's so awesome how one can find any information under the sun)!

Only THIS wasn't awesome information, it was kind of scary information!

I take a certain medication for RA (rheumatoid arthritis) called Methotrexate, I take it because I hate needles and don't want one of the meds that are injected or by IV. But I also have to take Folic Acid to balance one of the effects. I take a Multi Vitamin/Mineral Supplement too, which is apparently not an adequate Vitamin B12 amount either (unfortunately).

Lack of both those supplements can cause many problems, one of them being Anemia, which leaves an individual tired, listless and/or depressed. I don't feel depressed, but I AM extremely tired all the time and feeling weak, so I guess that could explain the fatigue that has plagued me for about the last 3-4 months.

I have another app. on tuesday for more involved testing and I am hoping that it can all be worked out fairly quickly.

So all I have been doing lately is *ghosting around* on Newsvine, reading articles and seeds, voting and occasionally commenting, but not much else, (other than sleeping a lot)!

I wrote this just in case anyone has been wondering where I am.  I'm still here and hopefully will soon feel much more like participating in all the sharing and fun, so don't forget me.

Like Ahnold says "A'll be bock!" LOL :-)

G. H.

Hello. I know I haven't been doing much on NV for awhile and I feel very negligent and guilty. Here's a *sorta* explanation anyway. Just so darn tired, everything wears me out. Anyway, I'm looking forward to hopefully having it fixed up soon so I can return fully to my "second home" and all my many dear friends! :-)

Dear Friend G.H.: Do take good care of yourself. You mean so much to so many, me in for e Vanguard.

B-Complex and Folic Acid supplements would seem in order. You may want to discuss testing for iron levels since anemia seems at play here. There are prescription supplements, like for example Ferocon which address this situation. Also remember that with age. the body tends to mal-absorb certain nutrients. Do they also check for Calcium and Vitamin D levels? There are supplements for these things too.

It is good you are going to address these things. Best to stay on top of your health.

Your Good Friend (and sometimes nag), Enoch.

Thank you my dear Enoch! Your "nagging" I can handle much better than some, believe me! Yes, I am a bit ashamed of myself for neglecting things I should have been keeping up with. I know it is because of *needle trauma*, but that isn't a very good excuse for an aging woman! Hard to face that sometimes, I guess. I'll keep you informed of what I find out after my visit next week, I'm not fond of the thought of pernicious anemia. Yikes! :-)

Hi G.H.

I suffer from pernicious anemia, first took B12 shots and now take massive doses of B12 every day, and would be incapacitated without these inexpensive little sublingal tablets. Some people are incapable of absorbing B12 naturally whether due to an autoimmune disease or because they are vegans and do not supplement their diets. I believe it is hereditary, and it can cause loss of hearing, make you off balance, cause thyroid problems, low metabolism, and other ailments if not treated promptly. It sure does sap energy, but the B12 will fix it! Good luck to you and may you regain your energy soon.

Hi ambivalent. Yes, I'm sure that is part of the problems I'm experiencing. I know that RA is an autoimmune disease. I've had it most of my life and should have realized that anemia, which has plagued me quite a few times off and on in my life was showing up again. I feel pretty dumb! LOL :-)

It has been quite cold here all winter (?) but not a ton of snow, just enough to be slippery and scary piled up into about 4 ft. berms, and low teens and single digit nights. So we'd get snow, it would start to melt then freeze into black ice, THAT'S what I don't want to drive in, the ice! Who knows anymore? :-)

I'm sure glad we don't get tornados though!

That tracker thing is useless b/c this never showed up on it, so pardon my tardiness, GH!

Low B12 is a very common *side effect* of autoimmune disorders (of which I'm sure you know RA is one). Mine came up extremely low last yr. I can claim OA, fibromyalgia, & 3 different *tunnel* syndromes (carpal, ulnar, & tarsal) & I was told this occurs a lot in ppl w/ autoimmune stuff going on.

So sorry to tell you that the *cure* involves more needles :-( I had to go every single mo for 6 mos & get a shot of B12 to jack it up. It's finally leveled itself out at what my PCP calls *low normal* AKA *good enough* LOL But he does make me go for a blood draw every 6 mos to keep an eye on that & the C-reactive protein levels (inflammation indicators).

I am dreading the day when he says the folic acid has dropped from its position in the *low normal* region. One of the meds I take is super-duper-constipating, & adding more iron to that....oy, I'll be on a laxative!

Good luck....ain't nobody fussed w/ all those needles!
